Auditions are an integral part of the musical theater process. Here is how we ask students come prepared to audition for our Tracks:
Please prepare a one-minute age appropriate contemporary monologue (see options below) and 32 bars of a musical theater or pop song (uptempo is suggested, ballad's are accepted). You do not need to sing a song from the show you are auditioning for, but can if you choose to. Accompaniment will be provided, so please bring sheet music that is cut to the section of the song that you are singing. If you would like to bring your own recorded accompaniment, we are prepared to accommodate CDs and mp3 players with an auxiliary input.
Students will be placed in a role that the directors feel is appropriate. It is a reality of the business that there are larger and smaller roles in every musical - at SB SOPA, we make sure that every participant (no matter what role they are given) is included and utilized as an asset to the production. Remember, when you are in the cast, you are part of a team!
HOW TO FIND A MONOLOGUE:
Finding the right monologue doesn't need to feel stressful! At SB SOPA, we encourage you to read something that feels right for you. If you have recently played a part in a play, using something that is fresh in your mind is a great idea!
While reading plays is the best way to find a great monologue, there are many resources you can use to find a great piece to audition with. Here are some helpful links:
